The rise and fall of Cannon Films
According to Den of Geek
At its 80s peak, production company Cannon Films was putting out more than a dozen movies per year. So what went wrong? Ryan takes a look...
In 1986, Cannon Films were riding on a wave of success. Producers Menahem Globus and Yoram Globus, the two figureheads behind the studio, had just opened their expensive new offices in Los Angeles, and their growing fame was captured for posterity in a BBC Omnibus documentary called The Last Moguls.
The swaggering self-promotion of Cannon at its mid-80s height was also captured in a promo video from the era. Against a backdrop of wailing stadium rock, clips from the studio's slate of dramas and trashy action movies played out, with the voice of ubiquitous trailer narrator Don La Fontaine growling the following grandiose statements over the top:
"Cannon Films [a slow-motion shot of Sylvester Stallone screaming]. The home of high-powered, high-voltage motion picture entertainment [an unidentifiable vehicle explodes]. With the screen's biggest spectacles [a jeep leaps off a sandy ridge and hits a palm tree]. Brightest stars [a shot of a naked Michael Caine lying on top of Sally Field]. And biggest line-up of explosive entertainment [Dolph Lundgren swings a sword about while dressed as He-Man].
"We're taking motion picture excitement over the edge [Chuck Norris fires a rocket launcher at a car]. And your box office over the top [Sylvester grimaces during an arm wrestle]. We're Cannon Films, and we're dynamite [a car explodes]."

Kids need heroes. Call it square if you want, but I'm a flag waver, so I push a lot of Americanism in my movies.

Chuck Norris in "The Delta Force" Soundtrack Released.
"The Delta Force" Soundtrack Limited Collector’s Edition of 1000 units.
Quartet Records re-releases classic out-of-print Alan Silvestri action score with a special 2-CD edition.
Based on the real life terrorist plot of the hijacked TWA Flight 847, The Delta Force (1986) by The Cannon Group is one of the most successful and memorable mission movies from the 1980s. Starring Lee Marvin and Chuck Norris as the leaders of several hostage rescue attempts that eventually climax in a memorable rundown showdown in the Middle East, Menahem Golan's action vehicle turned out to be a major success that spanned two sequels and one memorable soundtrack.

Last week, WCSC-TV reported that after Benjamin and Hope Jordan relocated to Charleston, S.C., they needed to find a baby sitter for their 7-month-old son, Finn, but what they found was a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Benjamin and Hope wanted a loving, nurturing baby sitter, just like any other concerned parents who work during the day but have no family or friends to watch their child. They had done their homework and thought they had discovered her in 21-year-old Alexis Khan. She passed a background check and had credible work experience as a baby sitter, and both of Finn’s parents thought she was “a good fit.”
Five months into her baby-sitting, however, the Jordans noticed that their trusted and loyal dog, Killian, had become overly protective of Finn when the baby sitter came around. Killian, a black Lab and German shepherd mix, is normally docile and friendly.
Thank God for not only canine instincts but also maternal discernment. As an act of precaution, Hope wanted to record what occurred while Kahn was baby-sitting. So the Jordans planted their iPhone under the couch to record any interactions between the baby sitter and their infant son.
To their horror, it captured the sounds of an abusive baby sitter and a beloved baby shrieking in pain.
Benjamin explained the recording to WCSC:
“It started with cussing. Then you hear slap noises, and his crying changes from a distress cry to a pain cry. And I just wanted to reach through the audiotape, go back in time and just grab him up.”He further lamented, “To know that (for) five months, I had handed my child to a monster not knowing what was going on in my house for that day.”
After reviewing the audio recordings, police arrested Khan. She confessed to the crime, pleaded guilty to assault and battery, and was sentenced to one to three years in prison. She also has been placed on a child abuse registry under the South Carolina Department of Social Services, which will prevent her from working with children in the future.
“That is fantastic news for us to know that maybe Finn’s ordeal has possibly saved another child’s life,” Benjamin responded.
It was with a great sigh of relief that the Jordans told WCSC that Finn is doing well and shows no signs of negative effects from the abuse he suffered at the hands of his baby sitter.
Benjamin concluded, “Had our dog not alerted us to the trouble, had my wife’s instincts not said we need to make something happen, it could have been Finn that was killed by the baby sitter. You never know.”
Benjamin is correct. Finn’s story ends well, but not all victims’ do. That is why I’m calling on parents everywhere to doubly ensure their children’s safety. And there’s no better time than now, especially with summer ending and so many returning to routines that require baby sitters.
According to the Administration for Children and Families, every day, a staggering five children suffer an abuse-related death — an increase from roughly three a day in 1998.
Childhelp, a leading national nonprofit organization dedicated to helping victims of child abuse and neglect, further explains on its website that in the U.S. alone, more than 3 million reports of child abuse are made annually, involving more than 6 million children.
The website also explains:
- —Approximately 80 percent of children who die from abuse are younger than 4.
- —Roughly 50-60 percent of child fatalities caused by maltreatment are not recorded as such on death certificates.
- —Children who experience abuse and neglect are about nine times likelier to become involved in criminal activity.
- —About 80 percent of 21-year-olds who were abused as children meet the criteria for at least one psychological disorder.
- —About 30 percent of abused and neglected children will later abuse their own children.
According to the Forum on Child and Family Statistics, in 2011, 13 percent of children ages 0 to 4 with employed mothers were “primarily cared for by a nonrelative in a home-based environment, such as care from a family day care provider, nanny, babysitter, or au pair.”
The above statistics stress just how important it is that parents and guardians take precautions to protect their children no matter who watches them. Non-family and non-friend sitters carry their own particular risks, so proceed with extreme prudence.
Beneficial, but not foolproof, are the websites Care.com, Sittercity, Babysitters4hire.com, eNannySource and SeekingSitters — where background checks, identification checks and profile reviews are generally included.
Foremost, don’t check in your brain at the door of child care. And don’t be afraid to ask all the hard questions, do extensive background investigations and make surprise pop-ins on those who care for your most precious and priceless offspring. They’re your kids, and it’s your house, so monitor their welfare when you’re gone, even with electronic-eye devices. Once upon a time, they were cumbersome and costly, but now they’re small and relatively inexpensive. Some even can fit on a dog’s collar!
And if you don’t have the money for high-tech surveillance, use your smartphone as the Jordans did. If you’re suspicious — or even if you’re not — record a day’s audio or visual events in your house. A little domestic espionage might educate you and even save someone’s life.
If you suspect a child abuse situation or just want more information, call the National Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-4-A-CHILD (1-800-422-4453). Crisis counselors are also available 24/7 online at http://www.childhelp.org/hotline.

"CHUCK" - A LOVE STORY
Please Enjoy!! according to http://www.digitaljournal.com
There was a minor upset in the town of Sóller on the island of Mallorca recently, when locals thought they saw Chuck Norris in town, and even posed with him for photos. Turned out he was a lookalike there to make a video - which we now have.
A couple of weeks ago, the Mallorcan town of Sóller was buzzing with the rumor that Chuck Norris was in town. They heard the 73-year-old star of "The Delta Force" and "The Way of the Dragon" was staying at the Hotel La Vila, and locals turned up in full force, some posing for photos with the screen giant.

Great Advice from Chuck Norris.
If you really want to be more successful in life, you must be able to visualize (mentally see) yourself already having achieved your desired results before you get started. The more you see yourself already achieving your goals, the quicker you will achieve them. Think of visualization as a positive day dream that performs a very specific purpose.
I use positive visualization in all areas of my life. In fact, this was one of my best training secrets when I was fighting. I always visualized myself fighting & beating my opponents before getting into the ring with them. To my mind & body, I had already fought my opponent. This gave me a big advantage when I stepped into the ring because my mind & body acted & reacted as I had visualized.

MAX IT! Session one was a perfect kickoff for convention weekend - Chuck Norris.
Max’s founder Steven K. Scott and his wife Shannon. Steve and Shannon were beyond excited to present, what Steve called his “biggest moment” of his life. The introduction of our guests of honor the Max It! convention: Chuck and Gena Norris.
Chuck and Gena were welcomed by thunderous applause from the audience as they sat to talk with Steve and Shannon. They talked about their years of friendship, and while their relationship started out as purely business, eventually they all became the closest of friends. This was so gratifying because it perfectly echoes Max’s ethos that life is not just about the business, it’s about the people you reach out and touch. Here are some of the highlights from their talk:

Chuck, do you know any communities or states that have successfully raised the bar on nutrition standards in school meals with creative ideas and collaborative efforts? – Brian F. in Memphis, Tenn.
Last week, I discussed how bad the nutrition in lunches at public schools has become. I also addressed the limited ways in which the federal government can enforce healthier eating.

Chuck Norris Backs 'Scorned and Prohibited' Bible Study in Schools.
According to http://www.christianpost.com/
Chuck Norris, famous action star and outspoken Christian, argued in favor of incorporating Bible study in public schools in America, writing in a recent column that Thomas Jefferson would have backed the idea.
Chuck Norris, famous action star and outspoken Christian, argued in favor of incorporating Bible study in public schools in America, writing in a recent column that Thomas Jefferson would have backed the idea.
"True, Jefferson thought it best that (religious education) not be included among the curricula in the earliest stages of children's schooling," Norris wrote, who along with his wife, Gena, is on the board of the National Council on Bible Curriculum in Public Schools, referring to Jefferson's Notes on the State of Virginia book published in 1785.
Jefferson, one of the Founding Fathers, wrote that "The first stage of this education being the schools of the hundreds, wherein the great mass of the people will receive their instruction, the principle foundations of future order will be laid here. Instead, therefore, of putting the Bible and the Testament into the hands of the children at an age when their judgments are not sufficiently matured for religious enquiries, their memories may here be stored with the most useful facts from Grecian, Roman, European and American history."
The actor reminded readers that Jefferson added right after that that "the first elements of morality, too, may be instilled into their minds: such as, when further developed as their judgments advance in strength, may teach them how to work out their own greatest happiness."
Norris argued in a column published on News Busters that Jefferson was not against religious education in public schools, but wanted to make sure students were sufficiently matured before tackling religious questions.
"The fact is that Jefferson, who is regarded today by so many as the 'great separatist,' did not separate religious education and expression from public education," Norris continued. "In fact, he was against limiting education and stifling Americans' freedoms in any form, including religious expression and education."
The actor concluded by wondering what Jefferson would have thought about a completely secular public education system today in which the Bible is generally "scorned and prohibited."
Secular groups in America have often spoken out against including Bible classes in public schools, and have warned against the distribution of religious materials to students.
The American Civil Liberties Union said in August that Kentucky school districts allowing Bible giveaways from Gideons International constitutes a violation of the First Amendment, which prohibits favoring one religion over another.
The ACLU argued that distributing Bibles to students "violates clearly established federal law, and that the organization will assess future incidents of similar conduct for potential litigation."
A recent survey conducted by Barna Group on behalf of the American Bible Society found that nearly two-thirds of Americans believe that public schools should include values based on the Bible in their curriculum.
As many as 66 percent of respondents to the survey said that teaching the Bible in public schools is important, while 75 percent said that it could help reinforce moral principles.
"While our intention may be to protect students from the influence of 'other people's' religion, the effect has been that we are raising a generation ignorant about the most influential book of all time," ABS President Doug Birdsall commented on the results.
